Abu Dhabi Judicial Department Adopts AED Stablecoin for Legal Payments
Abu Dhabi's Judicial Department (ADJD) has become the first government entity in the Middle East to accept cryptocurrency for legal fees, marking a milestone in the UAE's digital economy strategy. The department will utilize AE Coin, the first licensed AED-pegged stablecoin in the UAE, for court-related transactions.
Undersecretary Yousef Saeed Al Abri framed the MOVE as part of a broader judicial modernization effort under Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan's leadership. "Diversifying smart payment options through digital currency integration strengthens institutional cooperation between judicial and financial sectors," Al Abri stated.
The AE Coin continues expanding its ecosystem, having recently partnered with Abu Dhabi's Transport Department and municipal authorities. Al Maryah Bank's Omar Al Zaabi highlighted how such collaborations demonstrate blockchain's potential for secure public service applications.
